The provider of superior online gaming solutions and products, powering iGaming operators across the globe, Yggdrasil, will now be looking for a new chief technology officer (CTO), after Maciej Smolarek announced his plans to depart from the company. Smolarek initially joined Yggdrasil back in January 2023. At the time, he was appointed to the role of CTO and managing director.
Since January, Smolarek held a remote CTO role before announcing his plans to exit the company. The announcement came via the executive’s personal LinkedIn page, with him confirming that the time has come for him to “go on a new mission.”
Throughout his tenure with Yggdrasil, the outgoing CTO oversaw strategic technical aspects of its strategy that sought to match its business goals. The outgoing CTO helped with important processes, including data protection, quality assurance and effective development, while supervising systems that focus on exceptional efficiency and functionality.
Part of Smolarek’s responsibilities involved collaboration with other departments as well as monitoring and defining KPIs, including IT budgeting. Leveraging his extensive skills, the executive played an important role in many processes that were vital for the company’s growth over the last year and a half.
Yggdrasil is yet to confirm if a search for a new CTO has already started. While the company has the option of sourcing an external expert for the senior-level role, a promotion from within may also be considered.
The Outgoing CTO Has Solid Experience
Smolarek commented on the topic and revealed in a statement via his LinkedIn page writing: “I’m looking for senior managerial roles in software engineering, I’m available very soon, and open to travel.” The executive added: “Bringing a decade of experience in hands-on full-stack software engineering I also accumulated 12 years as a manager: leading, building, and scaling high-performing engineering teams.”
Throughout his career, Smolarek accumulated extensive experience, knowledge and a deep understanding of the ever-changing gambling sector. He has nearly a decade of experience in the vertical.
Before Yggdrasil, Smolarek was a part of Crimson Pine Games where he held the role of director of engineering until January 2023. Between July 2021 and June 2022, he served as the head of internal tools at Ten Square Games. Smolarek’s professional background includes a number of important roles with Huuuge Games, among other leading software businesses.
