Former UFC fighter Nate Diaz has been charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking a Las Vegas security guard this summer, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, the athletics arm of the celebrity media outlet.

The alleged incident took place on August 25 outside Omnia at Caesars Palace, TMZ reports, where Diaz, 39, and some friends were holding up the cashier line. When a security guard for the nightclub approached to inquire about the problem, Diaz shoved the guard’s face back with his open right hand, knocking the glasses off his nose.

The incident is captured in this video posted to X by @SouthlandPost on September 5, which has nearly 100K views as of this writing.

According to the court documents, Diaz and the guard were separated by other security guards. By the time the police arrived, Diaz had left. A warrant for his arrest was later issued.

The case is currently ongoing, according to TMZ Sports.

Off-Duty Fights

This wasn’t Diaz’s first time putting his MMA skills to use in his personal life. In April 2023, the former welterweight headliner choked out Logan Paul lookalike Rodney Peterson in a New Orleans street fight.

Diaz was arraigned by New Orleans police on a second-degree battery charge, but the local district attorney decided to drop that case after determining that Diaz acted “100% in self-defense.”

Diaz and his older brother, former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz, are embraced by MMA fans for their brash fighting technique and anti-authoritarian attitude.

Nate Diaz last fought in the UFC in 2022, when he beat Tony Ferguson in Las Vegas. Since then, he’s been a boxer, beating Jorge Masvidal by majority decision, but losing to Jake Paul by unanimous decision.

Diaz has been discussed as a possible 2025 challenger to fellow welterweight Conor McGregor, whose last UFC fight was in 2021. The UFC rivalry between McGregor and Diaz stands at 1-1.
