This match signified Afghanistan’s initial Boxing Day Test and the first for Zimbabwe on their home ground after a break of 27 years, laying the groundwork for an exciting encounter.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat. Their captain, Craig Ervine, showcased three new members: Ben Curran, a left-handed batter who is also the brother of England’s Sam and Tom Curran, and bowlers Trevor Gwandu and Newman Nyamhuri.
