UK Gov Unveils New DCMS Ministerial Team

The United Kingdom’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has unveiled its new ministerial team, led by Lisa Nandy. Nandy was confirmed as Brtiain’s new DCMS head approximately a month ago and is now set to be supported by a team of industry professionals, including a new gambling minister.

The DCMS Unveiled Its New Team

According to the DCMS, the DCMS ministerial team will include the following:

  • Lisa Nandy – Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport
  • Sir Chris Bryant – Minister for Creative Industries, Arts, and Tourism
  • Stephanie Peacock – Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth
  • Baroness Fiona Twycross – Minister for Gambling

Nandy, according to the UK government will be responsible for the DCMS’s overall strategy and policy. In the meantime, Bryant’s areas of responsibility are set to include arts and libraries, creative industries, museums and cultural property, cultural diplomacy and power, tourism, and heritage.

Peacock, on the other hand, will be responsible for sport, media, civil society, youth and ceremonials. She was named as the DCMS’ parliamentary under-secretary of state shortly after the Labour Party’s win at the recent elections. Peacock was also among the leading candidates for a gambling minister, considering her prior experience as shadow minister for sport, gambling and media.

Finally, Twycross, as the DCMS’s new gambling minister, will be responsible for overseeing the gambling sector in the United Kingdom.

The BGC Will Cooperate with the DCMS

In other UK-related news, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) recently expressed support for the newly appointed ministers in the DCMS, vowing to cooperate with the new government on finalizing the white paper reforms.

BGC chair Michael Dugher spoke on behalf of the 110,000 people working in the gaming sector and the 22.5 million gamblers in the country, expressing commitment to collaborate with the new ministers to promote economic growth and enhance standards for safer gambling.

The BGC, however, asked the government to prioritize evidence-led reforms that wouldn’t hurt the British gaming industry.

In other news, the UKGC just recognized the GSGB report as a baseline for future gambling research.
